About University of Technology and Applied Sciences
The University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) is Oman's public technical university, headquartered in Al-Khuwair, Muscat. Its lineage begins in 1984 with the Oman Technical Industrial College, which became the Higher College of Technology in 2001; the university in its present form was created in 2020 by merging the Colleges of Technology with the Colleges of Applied Sciences. It is the largest higher-education institution in the Sultanate by enrolment, with 48,781 students as of May 2024, and operates eleven branches across nine governorates including Nizwa, Sohar, Salalah, Ibra, Sur, Mussanah, Rustaq, Ibri and Shinas, the newest being Musandam at Khasab in 2024.
