The Ford Shelby GT500 modification project, known to American muscle enthusiasts by the nickname "Hook," has moved to a new phase focused on the drivetrain, as the transmission and clutch housing were prepared to handle torque of up to 1500 Newton-meters. This step comes after the previous episode completed the installation of a standalone Motec engine management system, with the launch control feature activated that works even on regular roads.
The clutches are the first thing affected when torque is raised, because the extra power passes through them before reaching the wheels. This is why tuners turn to multi-disc clutches designed for higher loads, with stronger friction materials, and possibly a flywheel made from lighter materials to improve response. But the most important thing is not just the declared torque rating, but the ability of the entire system to dissipate heat under repeated stress.
