Mercedes-AMG has revealed the GT SUV, a fully electric high-performance SUV that marks the brand's first dedicated electric model from its performance division. The vehicle produces up to 1,153 horsepower through a triple-motor setup using axial-flux electric motors, and it supports DC fast charging at rates of up to 710 kW — figures that place it among the most powerful electric SUVs announced to date.
The GT SUV is positioned as AMG's direct response to the Porsche Cayenne Electric, and on paper its output and charging capability appear to surpass the Porsche's. It sits at the top of AMG's expanding electric lineup rather than in the mainstream Mercedes-Benz SUV range, meaning it targets buyers shopping in the luxury performance segment rather than the volume electric SUV market.
For Saudi buyers, the closest rival is clearly the Cayenne Electric, which Porsche will bring to the region. Other competitors in the high-performance electric SUV space include the Lotus Eletre and the BMW iX M70, both of which are already offered in Saudi showrooms, along with the Audi SQ8 e-tron. The GT SUV will need to justify its place against these established options, particularly on price and local availability.
Shoppers should note that the first customer deliveries are scheduled for US dealerships in summer 2027, so a Saudi launch is unlikely before then, and Mercedes-AMG has not confirmed regional timing or pricing. Buyers in the Kingdom should also watch for how the 710 kW charging capability translates into real-world charging times, since public fast chargers in Saudi Arabia rarely approach those rates. The triple-motor layout and axial-flux technology are also new territory for AMG, so long-term reliability and service support will be worth monitoring once the model reaches the region.
