Porsche has revealed its new concept model Mission S, which is presented as a replacement for its legend 918 Spyder, but it chooses a completely different path from its predecessor; it relies on internal combustion engines instead of relying entirely on electric propulsion, while offering a manual transmission option. With this decision, the German brand appears to be responding to the demands of a group of driving enthusiasts who reject the complete slide toward silent electric cars.
This shift carries clear significance, as the original 918 Spyder was one of the first supercars to combine a gasoline engine and an electric system, and it was seen as a preliminary step toward a comprehensive electric era. The Mission S, however, revives talk of the mid-engine behind the cabin and of the driver's direct interaction with the car.
