Subaru Forester recalled

Subaru is recalling a small number of Forester Hybrids to fix an issue that may prevent them from staying put when the transmission is in Park.

Subaru has issued a recall covering a small number of Forester Hybrid SUVs, after discovering a fault that can allow the vehicle to move even when the transmission is shifted into Park. The problem relates to the mechanism that locks the drivetrain in place when the vehicle is parked, meaning an affected car could potentially roll rather than stay put. Subaru says the number of vehicles involved is limited, and it will contact owners directly to arrange the necessary repair work at no cost.

For owners, the practical advice is straightforward: until the fix is carried out, treat the gear selector as only part of the parking procedure. Applying the electronic or foot-operated parking brake every time, and choosing flat ground over a slope when leaving the car, adds a second layer of protection. Anyone who has not yet received a notification can check whether their vehicle is included by contacting their dealer or Subaru's regional distributor with the vehicle identification number.

The Forester sits in the compact crossover segment, one of the most crowded and competitive categories in Saudi Arabia. It has long appealed to buyers who want a practical family SUV with generous cabin space, good visibility and standard all-wheel drive, and the hybrid version adds fuel savings that matter in a market where drivers cover long distances in hot conditions.

Rivals sold locally include the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Nissan X-Trail, Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage and Mitsubishi Outlander, several of which offer hybrid or electrified options of their own. That makes the Forester Hybrid a direct competitor to the RAV4 Hybrid and the X-Trail in particular, and shoppers comparing them will weigh resale value, dealer network reach and parts availability alongside efficiency.

Anyone shopping for a used Forester Hybrid should ask whether the recall has been completed and look for documentation from the dealer. Buyers should also confirm the warranty position and whether the vehicle was serviced through official channels, since recall work carried out at an authorised centre is the clearest assurance that the parking issue has been resolved.
