About American University of Sharjah
The American University of Sharjah was founded in 1997 by Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, and sits inside Sharjah's University City in the UAE as a non-profit, co-educational institution. It was licensed by the Ministry of Higher Education in 1998, accredited by the UAE Commission for Academic Accreditation in 1999, and gained US accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education in 2004. Its academic structure comprises the College of Architecture, Art and Design, the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Engineering, and the School of Business Administration, offering 33 undergraduate majors, 24 master's programs and eight doctoral programs. Enrolment stood at 6,727 students in fall 2025, of whom 5,983 were undergraduates. In 2010 its architecture program became the first outside North America to earn NAAB accreditation.
