Volkswagen is reportedly planning to retire its Spanish Seat brand by 2029, ending a 76-year run. Instead, the automaker will channel its investments into its sportier Cupra sub-brand, which originally grew out of Seat. No official pricing or model details were disclosed.

Volkswagen is reportedly preparing to phase out Seat, the Spanish marque that has been part of the group for over seven decades, by the end of this decade. According to an industry report, the German automaker will instead pour its financial and engineering resources into Cupra, the sporty performance division that began life as a Seat sub-brand. If the plan materialises, Seat would effectively vanish from dealerships around 2029, while the Cupra badge it spawned carries on as VW
