A Brazilian electric motorcycle company focused on battery swapping has passed 10 million battery swaps, reached EBITDA profitability and grown to more than 10,000 active riders, according to the company. The milestone matters because it comes before Vammo takes its model outside its home base of São Paulo, suggesting the swap concept can work at commercial scale rather than only as a pilot project.
The idea behind battery swapping is simple. Instead of plugging a bike in and waiting, a rider pulls up to a kiosk, hands over a depleted pack and rides away with a charged one in a matter of minutes. For delivery riders, couriers and other high-mileage users, that turnaround is the whole argument. It removes charging time from the working day and reduces the need for a dedicated parking spot with a power supply.
That is the part likely to interest Saudi operators. Urban delivery fleets in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam run long, hot shifts, and charging infrastructure is still developing in many districts. A swap network shifts the responsibility for charging, battery health and replacement onto the operator, which can suit businesses that care more about uptime than about owning the hardware.
In segment terms, swap-based electric motorcycles sit at the practical, urban end of the market. They are generally aimed at commuting and commercial work rather than long-distance touring. Buyers in Saudi Arabia comparing options will find established petrol scooters and small motorcycles from Japanese, European and Chinese brands, alongside a growing number of electric two-wheelers from Chinese manufacturers and early electric offerings from legacy motorcycle makers.
Shoppers should look beyond the bike itself. Ask how dense the swap network is along your actual routes, whether the battery is included or leased, what happens if a swap station is full or offline, and how the pack copes with extreme summer heat. Warranty terms, service coverage, registration requirements and resale value deserve the same scrutiny. For now, Vammo's numbers are a useful signal that
