Mopar's EV-Swapped GTX SEMA Car Finally Gets The Hellcat It Deserves

Stellantis is shoving Hemi V8s back into just about everything in the U.S. lately, so Mopar joined the party by undoing an EV misstep from SEMA 2024.

Mopar has reversed course on one of its own show cars, pulling the electric powertrain out of the GTX concept it displayed at SEMA 2024 and installing a Hellcat V8 in its place. The build, which began life as an electrified retro-styled statement piece, now runs on the supercharged engine that has become shorthand for American muscle.

The move fits a wider pattern at Stellantis, which has spent recent months putting Hemi V8s back into a long list of U.S. products after a stretch of leaning heavily on electrification. Mopar, the company's in-house parts and performance arm, has now joined that push by effectively undoing its own EV conversion — an unusual step, since concept vehicles are rarely re-engineered after their show debut.

For Saudi buyers, the important point is that this is a show build rather than a showroom model. The GTX badge carries deep heritage value for Mopar loyalists, and the idea of a V8-powered version will resonate with enthusiasts who follow American muscle, but nothing announced so far suggests the car will be offered to customers in any market.

If a V8 coupe of this character were ever to reach Saudi Arabia, it would line up against the established American performance names already sold locally, along with rival muscle and sports models from other brands. That segment has a loyal following in the Kingdom, though it sits at the opposite end of the market from the electric vehicles now being promoted under the national sustainability agenda.

Shoppers should treat the GTX as a signal of intent rather than a purchase option. Anyone considering a heavily modified or limited-run performance car in Saudi Arabia should confirm parts availability, servicing support and import approval before committing, since custom builds can be difficult to register and harder still to resell.
