Nissan is testing the upcoming Navara Pro PHEV with two different rear suspension designs, one using leaf springs and the other using coil springs. The brand has not yet decided whether both setups will be offered in Australia, which suggests the final chassis specification is still being worked out. For pickup buyers, that is more than a technical detail: the rear suspension has a direct effect on how the truck rides, carries loads and handles rough roads.
In Saudi Arabia, the Navara competes in the mid-size pickup segment against established names such as the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max, Mitsubishi L200 and Chevrolet Colorado. A plug-in hybrid version would stand apart in a class where diesel and petrol engines still dominate. The suspension question also shows Nissan weighing two different priorities: a traditional workhorse layout versus a more comfortable, passenger-friendly setup.
Leaf springs are the familiar choice for heavy-duty use, especially when a pickup is expected to carry weight, tow regularly or cope with poor surfaces. Coil springs generally improve ride quality and road manners, but they can affect payload and the way the truck feels when fully loaded. Saudi shoppers should watch the final payload and towing ratings, the ride quality with a full bed, and whether the hybrid hardware changes bed space or spare-wheel packaging.
The PHEV element brings its own questions. Buyers should consider how often they can charge, how the battery performs in extreme heat, and whether the electric range suits daily use. Fuel savings will depend heavily on driving patterns: short urban trips may benefit most, while long desert journeys will rely more on the combustion engine. Resale value, battery warranty and service support will also matter in this market.
Nissan has not confirmed the final suspension choices or timings for our region, and pricing remains unknown. Until official specifications arrive, Saudi buyers should treat the Navara Pro PHEV as a promising but unconfirmed option and compare it
