Mazda believes its upcoming electric SUV, the CX-6e, can become one of Australia's most popular electric vehicles, with the company suggesting it could sell around 1,000 examples a month in that market. The model is being positioned as an electric counterpart to the CX-5, one of Mazda's longest-running and most recognisable family SUVs.

A monthly target of that scale implies the company expects the CX-6e to be a volume model, not a niche offering sold in modest numbers.
