About Sultan Qaboos University
Sultan Qaboos University is Oman's first public university. Construction began in 1982 and the first students enrolled in 1986 at Al-Khoudh in Al-Seeb, within the Muscat governorate. It opened with five colleges (Education, Engineering, Medicine and Health Sciences, Agricultural and Marine Sciences, and Science) and later added Arts and Social Sciences in 1987, Economics and Political Science in 1993, Law in 2006 and Nursing in 2008, bringing the total to nine. The university's own open-data files record 19,284 registered students for the 2025/2026 academic year — 17,036 undergraduates and 2,248 postgraduates. Admission is competitive and based on secondary-school results.
