Porsche has confirmed that its entry-level sports cars are done with petrol. The Boxster roadster and its fixed-roof Cayman sibling will return as fully electric models, with the first production cars scheduled for 2028. That closes the book on the combustion-powered mid-engine pair that has anchored the bottom of the Porsche range for decades.

In the Saudi market, that pair has long served as the most attainable route into Porsche ownership, a two-seater that sits below the 911 in both size and outlay. Its natural rivals here have included the BMW Z4, the Toyota Supra, the Nissan Z and, further up the ladder, Mercedes-AMG's smaller two-doors.
