  • HDR: look for HDR10+ or Dolby Vision support for better contrast and colour in supported content.
  • Brightness: crucial in bright rooms; a dim panel loses detail in daylight.
  • Ports: an HDMI 2.1 port matters for next-generation gaming.
  • Smart platform: make sure it supports your favourite apps and feels smooth to use.

Common mistakes to avoid

Do not chase inches at the expense of quality — a smaller TV with a better panel can beat a larger cheap screen. Beware vague marketing terms like "dynamic contrast ratio" or "HDR" with no stated standard; they do not always mean a better experience. And remember that built-in sound is usually modest, so you may want a separate speaker later.

Compare before you buy
